North Eastern Counties Dobermann Society Championship Show Critique

 Sunday 26th November 2023

I would like to thank the committee for the privilege of awarding my first set of Challenge Certificates at their show. A big thank you to Colin Laybourne the steward on the day for doing such a grand job.  A huge thank you to all exhibitors for their entries and gracefully accepting their placings.

Overall, I was pleased with my placings.  In general, I found no issues with dentition and only 1 with an overshot bite. Temperaments were good. Loose lips and fronts seem to be on the increase.

1st Morgan’s Malibray Rhuvaal At Telenndu ShCM VW.  A substantial well boned masculine Bl/r 8yr male with the darkest of tans.  Length of head in proportion to muzzle. Well set ears. Strong under jaw with correct bite. Nice dark eye, well filled to cheek. Strong neck flowing into good firm topline with correct tailset. Brisket down to tight elbows with strong pasterns and good feet. Strong hind quarters with a lovely turn of stifle which aided powerful drive. BVD, BVIS

1st Brough & Brannan’s Supeta’s Miami Heat For Aniiraz

7mths Bl/r male with a lovely bone. Nice head piece with good planes. Neatly set ears, deep set dark almond shaped eyes. Muzzle strong with good depth and width. Front angles okay. Brisket down to tight elbows, legs parallel with short pasterns. Forechest to develop. Slightly sloping topline. Sufficient turn of stifle. Has a tendency to roach when baiting and on the move, needs time to settle. Unfortunately lost out on movement for BPD.

2nd Moore’s Tuwos National Hero (IKC)

Promising 7mths Bl/r male with a clean balanced outline. Not as mature as 1. Head has good proportions with slight stop.  Eyes of correct shape and colour. Would have liked a stronger underjaw. Lovely clean arched neck leading into a good shoulder placement. Legs well under body with elbows tight to rib cage. Tightest of feet. Correct topline flowing into good tail set. Needs to be moved with vigour.

3rd Thomas’ Shalissa Kali’s Cloudy Bay

1st Evans’ Amazon Showtime. 9mths Bl/r square male. Presented in hard condition. Masculine head with strong foreface, darkest of eyes with well filled underline. Short neck leading into firm topline and good tail set. Well developed forechest and good spring of rib for age. Equal front angles, tight elbows held on strong parallel legs with short pasterns catlike feet. Nice short loin, well muscled thighs with good turn of stifle. Moved cleanly. Pleased to award him BPD, BPIS.

2nd Hickling’s Evalesco Ego Boost 9mths Bl/r Liked this boy alot, slightly longer cast than 1. Impressive well boned youngster with a good outline slightly spoilt by carrying to much weight. Good strong elegant wedged head with correct eye and ear set with excellent planes. Would have liked tighter lips. Clean arched neck flowing into a clean sloping topline and tailset. Forechest developing. Moved well with drive from a strong back end.  Front not as tight as 1 on the move.  No doubt these two youngsters will change places in the future.

3rd  Thomas’ Shalissa Kali’s Cloudy Bay

1st Capell’s Llepac Against All The Odds 17mths Bl/r elegant with sufficient bone. Beautiful head and expression, correct planes. Nice dark eye and correct bite.  Clean neck line flowing into a correct tailset. Well laid shoulders with good front angles with sufficient forechest. Good spring of rib with tight elbows and compact feet. Well developed first and second thigh leading to well let down hocks. Overall pleasing to the eye. Movement was clean fore and aft, holding topline. Just needs time to mature.

2nd Kent & Sutton’s Korifey Reckless Bl/r 11mths presented in gleaming condition and alert expression with rich rust markings. Overall appearance was square. Fore face equal in length to skull with slight stop but would have liked more length. Dark well set eyes.  Lovely crested neck into sloping topline.  Upper arm slightly long, sufficient forechest with elbows tight to brisket. Straight parallel front legs dropping to tight feet. Hind quarters strong and well muscled with enough turn of stifle. Moved well, topline needs to firm up.

3rd Bishop’s Korifey Heartbreak To Sacaria

1st Fletcher’s Sacaria Whisper of Hope Liked this boy a lot, very promising just needs time to mature. 21mths Br/r male with a clean balanced elegant outline in hard condition. Eye has correct colouring and shape, skull equal in length to muzzle with sufficient depth.  Lean neck flowing into strong topline which held on the move.  Front and rear angles equally balanced and well muscled. Moved soundly with good reach and drive. Pleased to award him RCC.

2nd Hart’s Supeta’s Sorchio 15mths Br/r Different type to 1. Std substantial compact male with darkest of coat. Level head planes with slight stop. Would have liked a darker eye and tighter lips. Sufficient length of neck, with clean hard topline with good tailset. Good depth of chest to elbow. Movement was driven by well muscled thighs and a good turn of stifle. Front needs to tighten on the move.

1st Hunt & Flitcroft’s Tuwos Mr Majestik Von Sallate Br/r short coupled standard well boned male. Strong masculine head with slight stop and correctly set ears. Almond shaped eyes of correct colour. Good depth of muzzle and correct bite. Would have liked tighter lips. Lean neck flowing into slightly high wither with backline flowing into a correct tailset. Nice short loin. Elbows well under ribs dropping down to short pasterns and tight feet.  Well muscled first and second thighs with a super turn of stifle which aided hind movement.  Hocks well let down. Moved well.

2nd Verrall’s Grafmax Oberon At Camperdown JW Br/r standard male with good bone. Head planes not as good as 1. Would have liked a stronger muzzle in width and depth.  Dark well shaped eyes. Neck lean flowing into clean topline and tailset. Front angles tight and balanced with brisket down to elbows with  ample forechest. Strong pasterns and tight feet. Lovely strong well muscled back end. Just lacked enthusiasm on movement.

1st Jones & Ushakova’s UK/LUX CH Korifey Vanquish JW Br/r 3yrs standard compact male with clean crisp outline. Presented in tip top muscled condition. Head piece has correct planes with well set neat ears and darkest of eyes with correct shape. Muzzle of good depth and width. Nice clean arched neck flowing into balanced shoulders and upper arm. Brisket down to tight elbows and well boned legs with short strong pasterns and tight feet.  Forechest complimenting front balanced structure with good spring of rib. Topline seamlessly following through to correct tailset. Clean undercarriage.  Hindquarters has a sweeping turn of stifle with first and second thigh being well muscled. Hocks well let down. Moved soundly with ease and presence with a look of noble arrogance, covered the ground well and in tune with handler. DCC/RBIS.

2nd Taylor’s CH Krieger’s Foul Play Br/r 4yrs standard male in well toned condition. Nice tan markings. Liked the bone on this boy.  Strong head with a lovely expression, planes not as clean as 1. Good depth and width of muzzle, correct bite. Eyes dark and of correct shape, ear carriage held tight to cheeks. Well developed forechest with brisket down to elbow dropping to well boned legs and strong feet. Topline slightly flowing to correct tailset.  Longer in loin than1. Powerful well muscled backend with a cracking bend of stifle.  Covered the ground well with reach and drive.

1st Burnham’s Jodaseen All Of My Heart 8mths Br/r Clean stylish outline for such a youngster. Head planes to develop, skull and muzzle of good length and depth. Neat high set ears falling close to cheek. Eyes of correct shape and colour. Arched neck flowing cleanly through to a short loin and correct tailset. Topline quite firm for age. Balanced front angles with a sufficient forechest. Brisket down to elbows, strong short pasterns and tight feet. Strong hindquarters with good turn of stifle and let down hocks. Moved cleanly with drive for age. BPB just lost out on maturity for BPIS. One to watch for the future.

2nd Bradbury & Sanderson’s Jodaseen Steel City Blues 8mths Bl/r Another lovely shaped youngster with more substance and length than her litter sister 1. Head planes okay would have liked more depth and length of muzzle. Well set dark eyes and filled to cheek.  Good reach of neck leading into good topline.  Sufficient forechest, ribs down to tight elbows and feet. Clean tuck up. Hind quarters well muscled with good width and a sweeping turn of stifle. Moved with good reach and drive.

1st Merrett’s Korifey Sweet Child Of Mine JW Bl/r Just into junior. An elegant balanced youngster with a crisp outline although I would have liked more bone. Feminine head with good planes. Eyes dark and well set.  Muzzle of good breadth and depth.  Neck clean and lean flowing into a strong correct topline and tailset. Good front angles with sufficient forechest and spring of rib with tightest of elbows and cat like feet. Hindquarters well muscled, would have liked a tad more turn of stifle and width of thigh. Moved true with reach and drive.

1st Taylor & Stracey’s Krieger’s In Style 21mthBl/r with rich rust markings. Feminine head with good planes and ear carriage. Dark eyes of correct shape.  Lovely clean arched neck flowing into strong firm topline and tailset. Good front angles  with elbows tight to ribs and well set under body. Would have liked a tad more forechest. Super turn of stifle with good width and muscle dropping down to clean hocks. Moved with purpose and drive.

2nd Evans’ Amazon She is Adored JW 17mths Br/r Elegant square profile with good bone, pleasing to the eye. Head planes not as good as 1. Eyes of correct colour and shape. Skull and foreface equal in length. Good front angles and sufficient forechest. Elbows tucked in tight under well sprung ribs and maintained on the move. Nice clean arched neck leading into a short firm topline and tidy croup with a correct tailset.  Pleasing turn of stifle and strong thighs. Moved true.

1st Kelly & Mycroft’s Supeta’s Smokin Hot. 15mth of good shape and size. Would have liked more leg.  Feminine head with foreface balanced to skull. Dark eyes of good shape well filled under to cheek. Nicely angulated front with tight elbows and good forechest.  Good reach of neck flowing into clean topline and good tailset. Hind quarters well muscled with good turn of stifle.   Good movement fore and aft.

1st Jones & Ingram’s Jojavik Unforgettable JW 22mth Bl/r short coupled compact body with great substance. Strong but feminine head with a nice flat skull. Eyes dark with well filled underline.  Neat ear carriage to cheeks. Lovely crested neck flowing into good topline. Excellent spring of rib. Good front angles complementing rear quarters with good turn of stifle dropping to parallel hocks enabling plenty of drive on the move. Covered the ground well.

2nd Evans’ Amazon Let Me Adore You JW Admired this quality girl from the ringside.  Bl/r girl rangier than 1 but still has a balanced well muscled profile where front and hind angles compliment each other.  Beautiful headpiece, skull flat and equal in length to fore face with correct planes. Good depth and width of muzzle and tight lips. Lovely arched neck flowing into clean topline and tailset.  Sufficient forechest, deep chest with tight elbows retained on the move. Under carriage not as clean on the day. Unfortunately she didn’t move as well as 1 looking a little tired on the day.

1st/ Bisland’s CH Krieger’s Highland Fling JW Br/r This girl has got style, flare and attitude, stands out from the crowd. Elegance with substance reflecting a balanced profile. Good head carriage on a clean lean neck. Flat skull with a slight stop. Eyes of correct colour and shape with well filled underline to cheek. Excellent length and breadth of muzzle. Being picky I would have liked a tighter lip. Ample forechest but not over done. Good shoulder and upper arm angles. Elbows tucked tight under line of shoulder with parallel legs flowing into strong pasterns and feet.  Clean topline and croup. Undercarriage clean with good tuck up. Excellent turn of stifle and strong upper and lower muscled thighs well let down hocks. So switched on with handler she could barely contain herself on waiting to move. Her ring presence was a joy to view with power and elegance in harmony. Took advantage of the whole ring. Pleased to award her BCC/BIS

2nd Bishop’s CH Korifey Oskana Bl/r Judged this girl as a very promising puppy. She certainly has matured into an elegant balanced girl. Clean head piece with level planes. Dry lean neck flowing into correct topline and tailset. Good front angles with sufficient forechest, good spring of rib with elbows held in tight on strong parallel legs. Clean undercarriage and tuckup. Well muscled hindquarters with a sweeping turn of stifle and strong hocks. Moved well, just didn’t have the drive and attitude of one. RCC
