North Eastern Counties Dobermann Society Open Show 2014
Sunday 27th July 2014

I would like to thank the committee of the North Eastern Counties Dobermann Society for their hospitality, hard work and fantastic entry. It is an honour to have been invited to judge at your open show. I have not attended too many shows recently; therefore I was not aware of current winning dogs. I hope that all exhibitors feel they were given the equal time and attention they deserved.
I was extremely lucky to have such a large entry with many quality exhibits. I was very pleased with my placing, although feel that the heat especially over the 2 days of shows, may have impacted on some of the dogs, particularly in movement.

I found temperament excellent and correct bite; there were some snippy heads and some atypical heads, some upright front assembly, flat feet and a couple who were overweight. I would like to see more length of muzzle in relation equal to the skull, my only issue is where exhibitors over extend the back legs to exaggerate the slope of topline which spoils their profile.

I was asked about my system of checking mouths, I do not like to open mouths or attempt to count teeth, in my opinion there is too much scope for error when overall conformation and movement in my opinion remains key in the quality sound dog.

I would like to thank all the exhibitors who entered their dogs allowing me the opportunity to see such a quality entry and for the sportsmanship shown on the day.

Veteran Dog (2,1)
1st Richardson’s CH Purroma Dark Impression At Jasprico JW ShCM
Black & rust male, 10 3/4 years of age, loved this boy as a youngster, showing his age now, lovely strong head with level head planes and dark eye. He is a heavy dog with plenty of bone and substance, just starting to loose the strong hard topline and a little loose on the move but given his age it is understandable.

Minor Puppy Dog (5, 1)
1st Moore & McPhee, Jones K&S Korifey Onxy
6 months old, black & rust dog developing nicely, a lot to like, stood squarely with a lovely sharp outline, alert expression with dark eye, good reach of neck into a strong top line & tail set, held firm on the move, well angulated front and rear with good turn of stifle, moved steadily for a youngster, feet a little tighter than his litter brother. Quality puppy.
2nd Dzuba’s Korifey Jet at Zajonti
Many of the qualities of his litter brother, slightly more length of muzzle and a fraction more bone, not quite as rich in markings as 1st. Just slightly longer in appearance than his brother. Another lovely puppy. He moved steadily holding his top line on the move.

Puppy Dog (2,0)
1st Fisher’s Jojavik Elite Mafia
10 month old black & rust dog, liked him a lot, developing nicely, stood straight from all angles with square appearance, good round bone, developing forechest and depth to elbow. Lovely male wedge shaped head with dark eye, slightly better head than 2nd; good reach of neck, slightly convex in shape, onto strong top line held firmly on the move. Well angulated front and rear. Super standard sized short square puppy. One to watch.
2nd Wilkinson’s Newford Jabbawocky
10 month old black & rust dog, another nice puppy, strong head, level head planes and dark eye. Not quite the bone & substance of 1st, well developing forechest and depth to elbow, a little straighter in stifle than class winner. Moved steadily for his age

Junior Dog (6,1)
1st Brough’s Remesca Rossini
Brown & rust dog of 16months of age, stood square in appearance, well developed forechest, good bone & substance. Lovely male wedge shaped head but would of liked a touch more muzzle, dark eye for a brown, adequate reach of neck into strong top line and tail set, well down to elbow, moved steadily and true
2nd Todd’s Supeta’s Trouble Maker At Toffarbach
17months black & rust male, slightly longer in appearance than 1st, strong bone with more forechest than winner, lovely expression and darkest of eye, strong top line and tail set, moved well, would have liked tighter feet.

Yearling Dog (3,0)
1st Ward’s Aritaur Inglorious At Jagelka
Brown & rust dog, 17months of age, square in appearance, lovely male head with dark eye, alert expression, would of preferred a slightly better reach of neck, strong slightly sloping top line and tail set, strong bone, stood true front & rear, developing forechest and depth just to elbow, well angulated front and rear, good turn of stifle, lovely tight feet, moved well with drive.
2nd Coll’s Caadak Haud Yer Wheesht Von Coltregan
18 month black & rust dog, dark rust markings, strong male, well developed forechest and well down to elbow, alert expression, dark eye, would have liked more length in muzzle, slightly better reach in neck and tighter feet, than 1 just lost out on movement.

Novice Dog (2,0)
1st Wilkinson’s Newford’s Jabbawocky
Was 2nd in Puppy
2nd Wright’s Alkahest Vivaldo At Kammroyal
17 month black & rust dog, square in appearance, male wedge shaped head with level head planes, small neat ears if a little highly set, good reach of neck, lost class on front angulation and movement

Graduate Dog (1,0)
1st King’s Nerak American Dream
11 months brown & rust dog, was 3rd in Junior. Square appearance, good round bone & substance, well down to elbow, lovely tight feet, male head with dark eye for a brown, would of preferred a touch more reach of neck, strong top line, well angulated front & rear with good turn of stifle. Moved steadily and true, holding firm topline on the move. A very close call between him and the puppy class winner, for best puppy dog, just edging him out. BEST PUPPY DOG & BEST PUPPY IN SHOW

Post Graduate Dog (4,2)
1st Downie’s Knecht Marek
20 months black & rust dog, strong wedge shaped male head with dark eye & level head planes, good reach of neck into strong slightly sloping top line & tail set, well developed forechest and depth to elbow, would of preferred more turn of stifle and strength in rear, moved well
2nd Caldicott’s Amazon Russian Roulette With Philmont
2year old black & rust dog, more substantial dog than winner, strong male head with dark eye and alert expression, strong top line and tail set, well angulated front & rear, would of preferred a touch more leg to finish overall appearance and he moved a touch wide in front.

Limit Dog (7,1)
An incredibly tough decision between first two dogs, I have admired them both since youngsters, could change places on another day.
1st Parson’s Ottia Captain Barbossa
3 year old black & rust male, super dog, square in appearance, super strong round bone and substance, he has matured nicely, strong male wedge shaped head with good length of muzzle and level head planes with dark eye giving typical expression, nice reach of neck into strong top line with no drop at the croup, good spring of rib and depth to elbow, well angulated front & rear, strong thigh, and good turn of stifle, lovely tight feet, moved steadily with drive around the ring, holding firm topline, moving true both away and toward. BEST DOG & BEST IN SHOW
2nd Richardson’s Jasprico Jazz Master Flash JW
21/2 year old black & rust dog, another super male, strong head with dark eye, not quite the length of muzzle of winner, good reach of neck which flows into a strong top line and tail set, if being critical not quite the bone & substance of winner and not quite the tightest of feet, cleaner in super square outline than 1st, moved well but felt he did not show to his full potential today.

Open Dog (8,1)
Another quality class
1st Colquhoun & Crawford’s Coltregan Boss
4 year old black & rust male of super quality and maturity, strong blunt wedge shaped male head with level head planes and dark eye, giving lovely bold expression, good length and depth to muzzle, stood square and true front & rear, well developed forechest, well down to elbow, strong bone with good spring of rib, super reach of neck into a strong top line, no drop at croup, well angulated and good turn of stifle, tight feet, loved his movement which was free and true with drive. Could still hold her own in the Open class. BEST VETERAN IN SHOW

Another lovely veteran, slightly longer than winner and not quite as in hard condition, nice feminine head, dark eye, alert expression, well developed forechest and down to elbow, level top line, stood straight front & rear, moved well.

Minor Puppy Bitch (4,1)
A lovely super class and a close decision in my first 3 placings.
1st Andrew’s Supeta Sweet Lil Mystery
6 month old black & rust bitch with a lovely crisp clean square outline, strong wedge shaped feminine head with dark eye, good reach of neck into strong level top line and tail set, forechest starting to develop and depth to elbow, good turn of stifle, won the class on having a stronger head, nice strong top line held firm, and she was the better mover on the day. Pushed hard for best puppy bitch!
2nd Lock’s Korifey Sapphire
Lovely minor puppy, crisp square outline, not quite the strength of head as 1, slightly more forechest and reach of neck than class winner. Strong level top line which was not held quite as well on the move as the class winner, but still only a baby.

Puppy Bitch (2,0)
Super puppy class, nothing between them and could change places on another day
1st Feeney’s Jojavik Belle De Jour Avec Diego

I liked her a lot and she pushed hard for the final top spots. One to watch.

2nd Pittendridge’s Flexor Isabella At Tomar
18 month old bitch, nothing overdone, slightly longer in profile and different type to winner, stronger in head than 1st, dark eye, alert expression, well developed forechest, strong top line held on the move, not quite the drive of winner on the day, could change places on another day

Smart crisp outline in profile, stood straight from front & rear, well developed forechest, tight feet, strong feminine head, dark eye with alert expression, when presented appeared a little wide when viewed from the front but moved well round the ring.
